This week we have Dr. Lindsey Lepley. We talk about how to take care of your joints and staying healthy. She's doing a lot of research around ACL tears. We talk a lot about eccentric training and blood restriction training.

Here is her biography:

Dr. Lepley’s research interests center around examining the negative neuromuscular effects of traumatic joint injury and identifying therapeutic approaches capable of combating neuromuscular dysfunction. Much of her previous and current research has evaluated the effects of eccentric exercise on the recovery of muscle function after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Additionally, she studied the impact of muscle inhibition on persistent muscle weakness, and the consequences of muscle weakness on knee joint biomechanics. Her current projects look to study the effects of ACL injury on neuromuscular function in a rodent model, and the ability of exercise to promote muscle and joint health for the purpose of translating this work back into the clinic to minimize the risk of traumatic osteoarthritis development.

This week is all about MURPH. We are publishing early because we know a lot of people will be doing the workout on Monday.

We get into the weeds with MURPH. Some of the myths, how to prepare and executing the workout. If you are doing MURPH this weekend or anytime definitely check this one out. Who better to give MURPH advice than from the guy who did it every saturday for a year??

LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL) was the officer-in-charge of a four-man SEAL element in support of Operation Red Wings, tasked with finding a key anti-coalition militia commander near Asadabad, Afghanistan. A fierce gun battle ensued on the steep face of the mountain between the SEALs and a much larger enemy force. Moving away from the protective mountain rocks, he knowingly exposed himself to increased enemy gunfire to radio his position to SOF Quick Reaction Forces. Though injured, LT. Murphy fought on, allowing one member of his team (Marcus Luttrell) to escape, before he was killed. For his selfless actions, LT. Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on October 27, 2007. We honor his sacrifice and memory though The Murph Workout.

This week we have Tim Crockett. Here is an exert from this site and what he is doing.

"My name is Tim Crockett and I’m going to row a 23ft boat, 'The Kraken', across the Atlantic ocean.

I'm doing this for very good reason: as a holder of both American and British passports, and being a Special-Forces veteran, I am painfully aware that many US and UK soldiers are struggling with depression, anxiety, alienation and thoughts of suicide brought on by PTSD. The journey I face is my way to raise awareness, educate and to start connecting those who need help with those that are there to provide assistance.

My pending journey is to take part in the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a race of more than 3,000 nautical miles from the Canary Islands to Antigua across the Atlantic Ocean. Considered by some to be one of the toughest challenges on earth. To put it into perspective, more people have scaled Everest or have journeyed into space than have rowed across the Atlantic. Even fewer have rowed it solo.

While I’ll be alone in the Atlantic, I need your help to get me there and by doing so you will be helping many other tame their own personal 'Kraken'."
